Marriott Rewards Travel Package
All things considered, we couldn't have asked for a better hotel for our seven nights on Kauai. The Courtyard Kaua'i at Coconut Beach was in a fairly central location for easy access to all that we did during our week long stay, and the $21.00 per night rate couldn't be beat! Previous business travel plus some bonus points from a credit card gave me enough Marriott Rewards points for a Marriott Travel Package. In early March of this year (before the March 31, 2017 deadline for point transfers to qualify for Southwest Companion Pass points), I chose to use 270,000 points to purchase a Hotel + Air Package 3 for which I received a 7 night stay in one of Marriott's category 1 - 5 hotels plus 120,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points. Within a few short days, I had both a certificate for a weeklong Marriott hotel stay plus 120,000 additional points in my Rapid Rewards account and a Southwest Companion Pass valid for nearly two years.

Courtyard Kaua'i at Coconut Beach Entrance and Accommodations
While the parking lot did get full on Thursday and Sunday due to scheduled lu'aus, we were able to find a parking space every time that we drove into the lot. The entrance was inviting and the front desk personnel were always cheerful when we wanted to exchange beach towels or when the pool attendants were off duty and we needed to check-out or return beach chairs.The entrance and lobby of the hotel were decorated in true Hawaiian style, as was the outdoor resort with tiki torches lighting up the pathways to the swimming pool and whirlpool each evening. The outdoor pool area was surrounded by lounge chairs, cushioned sun beds, hammocks and even a large fire pit to ward off the evening chill.
Although the hotel was was only four stories tall, it was spread out over a pretty big area with several different wings. Our room was located in the middle of the Wailua Wing, and in order to get there from the nearest elevator, we had to wander down the not air conditioned hallways past the vending/laundry and a number of other guest rooms. As the first floor was partially open air, I can understand why there was no air conditioning in the hallways, however the fourth floor hallways were actually quite stuffy as there was no air flow since all of the windows were always closed.
Our large room was appointed with a king size bed, small work space (desk, chair and complimentary wireless internet access), accent chair with ottoman, entertainment center with television as well as coffee pot and refrigerator and a large open space. From our very small private lanai on our top floor room, we had a view of the pool, and in the distance we could see the beach and ocean.

We took advantage of the large whirlpool / hot tub for some evening relaxation after exploring the island each and every day. We met and visited with people from around the country and other parts of the world, and even swapped ideas for restaurants to try, places to hike and sights to see. Live music was performed for several hours each evening in the Makai Lounge, however we, unfortunately, could not hear it from the hot tub.The hotel offered many other included amenities and events, most of which we did not take advantage of, including a fitness center, Monday and Wednesday morning Sunrise Experience (traditional chant & hula), Tuesday night trivia, Wednesday night hula show and Artisan Courtyard (daily except Saturday). In addition to the lobby restaurant, amenities and events requiring additional fees included the twice weekly lu'au, Friday evening flying lobster buffet, Saturday Italian pasta night, day spa, daily yoga, Friday fitness and even bicycle rental.
Although the beach at the hotel's back door wasn't the best for swimming, the grounds of the hotel were very well manicured and made for a delightful week on Kauai.

Courtyard Kaua'i at Coconut Beach Daily Resort Fee
By redeeming the certificate for our stay, all we were responsible for was the daily $20.00 resort fee plus some taxes. The resort fee gave us access to the following:- Complimentary self-parking
- Two signature cocktails from Makai Lounge
- One complimentary session of Yoga or Outdoor Strength & Core Training for up to 2 guests
- Business Center Services - computer access, printing & copying (up to $20)
- Local/long distance call to the US or Canada (up to $20 per stay)
- Complimentary daily rental of beach chairs, sun umbrellas & coolers (based on availability)
- $4.00 off any specialty cocktail in Makai Lounge from 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM (excluding during Happy Hour)
While we didn't use many of the benefits, compared to pricing at other Kauai hotels, we felt that $20.00 was a reasonably fair price for parking and access to beach chairs which we could use anywhere on the island ... plus our two free drinks - especially since that's all we paid for our entire stay!
