Camping | Arizona | Phoenix | Chandler | RV Resorts near Phoenix | RV Camping in Phoenix Metropolitan Area | RVing in Arizona | Where to Stay in RV near Phoenix

With family living in Gilbert, Arizona, our goal was to locate an RV park that was nearby and not overpriced. Since we planned to stay for a full week, we took advantage of a discounted rate at Hacienda Solano Resort making our stay affordable. Although we were seldom onsite during daylight hours, our seven night stay did give us the opportunity to both enjoy some of the resort amenities as well as explore the surrounding area.

If you are 55 or older and considering an RV stay in the Phoenix metropolitan area, take a look at this post for a review following our seven night stay at Hacienda Solano Resort. You'll find both a summary as well photos of select amenities available to resort guests. Based on our experience, it's best to make advance reservations - at almost four weeks before our arrival, our site was the last available.

Amenities at Hacienda Solano Resort

A combination RV and mobile home resort, Hacienda Solano is located on the border between the Phoenix, Arizona suburbs of Chandler and Gilbert. The age 55+ community offers a total of 172 sites, with 58 advertised as being dedicated to RVs. Additional RV sites sometimes become available when openings occur within sites designated for manufactured homes.

During our seven night stay, Hacienda Solano Resort was very quiet. The community was clean (trash dumpsters are located throughout the complex) and well maintained. There is a clubhouse used for potluck dinners, donuts & coffee and other parties / activities geared at long term tenants however RVers are probably also welcome.

There are a variety of retail stores and restaurants nearby, and grocery shopping is within walking distance just across the street. Although we spent the majority of our stay with my family who live less than 15 minutes away, we did take some time to explore some of the onsite amenities offered to guests staying at Hacienda Solano Resort. Individual bathhouses for men and women are located near the main office. Each private room is equipped with a locking door, shower, sink and toilet and, during our stay, were clean, well maintained and up to date. The map shows additional bathrooms located in the plot dedicated for RVers, however we did not have an opportunity to tour those facilities.

We toured one of the two Laundry Rooms located within the premises of the resort, and although we didn't have a need to wash clothes at the time, would have been very comfortable doing so. Depending on the load size and machine chosen, the cost for individual washer loads ranges from $1.25 to $1.75.

On the recreational front, amenities include pool tables, card tables, shuffleboard, a book exchange and more. For those who enjoy water activities, there is an onsite swimming pool as well as a jacuzzi (on a timer) which we enjoyed on several evenings during our stay. Only on one of the nights while relaxing in the jacuzzi were there others sharing the fenced and gated area.

Based on the discounted weekly rate at the time that we made our reservation, the total cost for our seven night stay was $260.00 including all taxes. The resort offers daily, weekly and monthly rates as well as a reduced daily rate for AARP and Good Sam members. (Rates at Hacienda Solano Resort increased between the date that we made our reservation and the first night of our stay just four weeks later. Although we had not received an email confirmation, the original quoted rate was honored with no questions asked.) Payment must be made by either check or money order - neither credit cards nor cash are accepted as forms of payment.

Site Amenities at Hacienda Solano Resort

Although a reservation request can be forwarded through the Contact Us page of the company's website, I had better luck by placing a phone call to (480) 963-3477. Since we never received a written confirmation, for peace of mind consider requesting one for your records should you decide to reserve a site at the resort.

Sites at Hacienda Solano Resort were clean upon our arrival, however some of the more permanent mobile home sites are laden with clutter. All sites at the resort require back-in parking onto a level gravel parking area equipped with all utilities (both 30- and 50-amp electric, water and sewer). Each site has plenty of room for RV slide-outs and also has a concrete patio located on the entry door side of an RV. Other than utilities, there are no site specific amenities for campers such as grills, tables, etc. There are some palm trees sporadically located throughout the resort, however none are close enough together to accommodate hammocks.

Upon our arrival, we were assigned site 123 which was an empty mobile home site located between two other mobile homes. Backing into the level gravel parking space with our 33 foot RV required multiple maneuvers due to the site's location near a culdesac. While utilities were all onsite, some of their locations were a tad difficult to reach with an RV since they were designed for a manufactured home. The 50-amp electric connection was difficult to find as it was underneath the box. When we were backed far enough into the site to reach the electric, connecting the sewer hose required crawling under the RV.

While the site was clean, outdoor clutter at the neighboring manufactured home site detracted from the visual appeal. Site 123 is quite spacious with more than enough room to extend slide-outs. The patio aligned perfectly with the entry door to our RV and, although the patio was quite large, it did need some maintenance to repair cracks.

Cell phone and data service through both of our carriers, T-Mobile and Verizon, was good. While password protected wifi is available for RVers in the clubhouse, game room and patio areas only, we never had electronics with us during our jacuzzi visits to test the speed and reliability. A generous variety of local and national cable television channels are also available for resort guests.

Favorite Sites at Hacienda Solano Resort

Although we did drive around the complex (click here for map) on several occasions, we never spent the time to find all of the 58 sites advertised as being specifically reserved for RVs. With all sites having identical amenities (electric, water, sewer and a concrete patio), we would return to the resort in any available site.

Off the Beaten Path Phoenix Area Attractions

With family living in the area for nearly twenty years, we have found ourselves in Arizona almost annually. Although we didn't spend any time sightseeing during our most recent visit, we have previously visited some off the beaten path locations. Stop back in the coming months for a list of places that you might enjoy checking out next time you find yourself in or near Phoenix.
