Amazing Colors at Yellowstone's Abyss Pool

Located in Yellowstone's West Thumb Geyser Basin, the Abyss Pool is the deepest pool in the national park. Standing over the pool and looking down, it is impossible to see the bottom of the amazing turquoise blue colored water. It is thought that the temperature of the pool has been lowered due to park visitors throwing coins into the pool - possibly in search of the pool's floor.

Have you visited Yellowstone National Park?

We joined Scott's brother and sister-in-law on a road trip through three national parks, including Yellowstone, in the summer of 2017. The area known as the West Thumb Geyser Basin is among the smallest of the park's basins, but it was probably our favorite! A 0.6 mile loop hike along a boardwalk took us past hot springs, pools, mud pots and more. We were all amazed at the color of the water in the Abyss Pool.

What was your favorite place inside Yellowstone National Park?
