The Colosseum: An Amazing Structure from the Ancients

Although built more than two millennia ago, the Colosseum had many technological advancements for the time. There were sophisticated underground staging areas and trap doors. There were multiple ways for the gladiatorial games to enter the arena and even for allowing participants into the shows. It is thought that, at times, the Colosseum was flooded with water for certain shows ... and at other times, wild animals were sent into the arena from underneath. Wow! It is a site not to be missed!

Do you enjoy visiting ancient Roman structures?

We have enjoyed multiples visits to Rome - each trying to see different sites than the last. One of our favorites has to be the Roman Colosseum. We had a small group tour and learned so much about the location's history, what the Colosseum was used for and more. It's great to discover more about the ancient construction of one of the most well known empires in the world.

Of every place that you have visited in Rome, what has been your favorite? . . . #rome #Colosseum #italy #history #romans #WordyExplorers
