Milner Pass at Rocky Mountain National Park

The Continental Divide, often referred to as the Great Divide, runs all of the way from Alaska in North America to Chile in South America. Just like here at Milner Pass in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park, where a drop of water lands can depend on where the water eventually ends up. If the drop lands in Cache La Poudre Creek (on the left side of this sign), it will flow to the Atlantic Ocean. But, if the raindrop lands on the right side (in Beaver Creek), it ends up in the Pacific Ocean!

Do you find nature fascinating?

The older I get, the more I am amazed by natural phenomena. Traveling has made me so much more aware of natural occurrences that I never really thought much about.

Of course I learned about the Continental Divide in school. But standing right beside Milner Pass in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park really makes you think. Where a drop of water lands can depend on whether it flows to the Atlantic or to the Pacific Ocean. It's hard to believe when standing at one place, drops from a rainfall flow in opposite directions depending on which side of the pass they land!

What natural occurrences are you amazed by?
