Oldest Structure in the Black Hills

Construction on the the oldest structure in the Black Hills that is known today as "Dr. Flick Cabin" was reportedly started in 1875. It was there that the doctor treated patients between 1876 and the early 1900's. Still located in its original spot, the small log cabin can be seen today in Way Park on Mt. Rushmore Road in Custer, SD.

Social Media Description

Have you visited Custer, South Dakota?

We didn't spend a lot of time there, but we loved the time that we spent. After a quick stop at the Visitor Center, we walked up and down Mt. Rushmore Road. This "main street" gives a great introduction to some of what Custer City has to offer.

It was there where we stumbled upon the Dr. Flick Cabin, the oldest structure in the Black Hills. There's also a variety of shops and restaurants, parks, murals and other fun artwork.

We had heard a lot about Black Hills Burger & Bun, but their limited hours didn't work with our need for a meal. The good news is that most of our gang ate a late bison burger lunch at Baker's Bakery & Cafe and left stuffed and happy!

What was your favorite thing to see or do in Custer?
