Clowning Around at Elephant Rocks State Park

The huge granite boulders found in Elephant Rocks State Park formed from granite estimated to be 1.5 billion years old. The Braille Trail is perfect for anyone wanting to get the best view of the rocks which some believe resemble circus elephants in a line. In addition to the "rock stars" in the park, you can also take short hikes to see the remains of a railroad engine house and a quarry.

Do you enjoy exploring state parks?

During our travels in the USA, we've found some state parks that rival some of the country's national parks. Depending on the state, some don't even charge an entrance fee. While some exhibits may require payment of a small fee, exploring the state parks in Missouri is generally admission free.

Elephant Rocks State Park in southeast Missouri has been on our bucket list for quite some time. Before leaving Missouri in May, we finally made it to explore the unique HUGE granite boulders that give the park its name. The park even has a very easy paved accessible trail, making it a place that welcomes everyone!

I married a woman who loves to camp, and I am what you would call indoorsy. My wife always brings up, 'Camping's a tradition in my family.' Hey, it was a tradition in everyone's family 'til we came up with the house. - Jim Gaffigan
