Pay Respects to Heroes Aboard United Flight 93

United Airlines Flight 93 was one of four airplanes hijacked on September 11, 2001. Ten years later, just outside the city of Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the Flight 93 National Memorial opened to commemorate the crash and heroism of both passengers and crew aboard. The visitor center is filled with displays about that fateful day in 2001. There's also a memorial plaza and a large boulder sitting at the edge of the remains of a grove of hemlock trees which marks the location where Flight 93 hit ground.

Do you remember where you were on September 11, 2001?

Our drive between Harpers Ferry, WV and Pittsburgh, PA took us very near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It was just north of this city where United Flight 93 crashed into a field. Since 2021 is the 20th anniversary of the terrible incidents on that day in September, Park Rangers at the memorial are telling the story of Flight 93. We were able to time our stop perfectly to hear the 30 minute presentation at 1:30 plus see the memorial plaza and explore the visitor center. (This boulder marks the site where United Airlines Flight 93 crashed.)
