Amazing Overlook at Goosenecks State Park

Water in the San Juan River flows for over 6 miles to get the 1 mile distance to Lake Powell. It's easy to see why the extra miles are required when taking in the view at Goosenecks State Park. The park gets its name from the tight turns in the river - also known as goosenecks!

Do you have any fear of heights?

While driving near Monument Valley, we made a stop at Goosenecks State Park to check out the view. The winding San Juan River cuts through the stone and winds back and forth through the desert. The parking lot comes right up to the edge and you can sit on the wall to admire the beautiful view.

Fun fact: It is estimated that the "goosenecks" in the river took 300 million years to form!

What are some of your favorite views from above?
