One of New Mexico's popular drives is known as the High Road to Taos. The scenic trip begins in Santa Fe and ends in Taos and measures a total distance of 105 miles. Although the route can be traveled in about 2 1/2 hours, most road trippers make stops along the way to see some of the state's unique churches including the Loretto Chapel (Santa Fe), Santuario de Chimayó (Chimayo), Nuestra Señora de San Juan de los Largos (Talpa) and San Francisco de Asis (Taos).

With both beautiful scenery and unique architecture along the way, we enjoyed our many stops along the High Road to Taos. Since we had visited Santa Fe a few years back, we didn't travel the entire distance of the Scenic Byway, but it was enough to get a taste!
Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out going to the mountains is going home; that wilderness is a necessity. - John Muir
