Even though we didn't hike all of the way to the ancient ruins, we had an amazing journey. From our home, we traveled to Cusco, through the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo and finally to Aguas Caliente. Each of our stops along the way had great places to visit.
As we expected, the Machu Picchu Archeological site was the best of the best. We hired a private guide to help make sure that we saw as much of the complex in our half day as was possible. The remains of the ancient Inca civilization were all amazing, but one "building" was considered the most important to these highly religious people. The Temple of the Sun was near one of the high spots on the land. The semi- circular temple with an alter-like structure overlooks the entire city and was very important to the Incas.
