The Wordy Explorers at the Monument Valley Overlook

The view of these three buttes standing in Monument Valley is an iconic one. The two furthest to the left are known as the East and West Mitten Buttes as they resemble huge mittens balancing on the floor of the desert. Merrick Butte, the third butte in the photo, completes a triangular shape that is not commonly found.

Are you a fan of John Wayne movies?

During our visit to Utah's Monument Valley, we admired the serene view of the desert with its iconic buttes. Although the view is spectacular at sunrise and sunset, it's not too bad during the afternoon either! This was a popular site for filming - John Wayne made five movies in the area ("Stagecoach", "Fort Apache", "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon", "Rio Grande" and "The Searchers").

Do any of these five movies starring "the Duke" make the top of your favorites list?
