Have you ever had an accident while hiking?
We did just that in West Virginia and just returned to the site of the accident so we could get a good look at
the hiking trail and warn others about what to look out for. The weather was dreary and rain had been falling
on and off that morning. The views from the overlooks at New River Gorge weren't that great due to cloud
cover. As careful as we tried to be, on our return hike, Scott slipped on the trail in this picture. He had a 4+"
long gash on his knee where it hit the plastic "honeycomb" meant to keep the gravel on the trail.
Fortunately a kind gentleman drove by and was able to help me get Scott to the car while he held his skin
together. I drove to what locals call the BarH ER where we waited for over 2 hours. After talking to another
patient who had been waiting for almost 24 hours, we decided to leave. At the recommendation of others, we
went to a nearby MedExpress where we got great service (and 10 stitches). So glad that we have travel
insurance!
We adjusted our plans and have been doing more sightseeing drives and the like. We'll continue that until he
has recuperated and can more easily walk again.
Have you ever had to make a trip to the hospital when traveling?
