Interesting Octagonal Church on the Island of Moorea

The Octagonal Church, also known as the Papetoai Temple, was built by missionaries around the year 1822. The church is an iconic and historic site on the French Polynesian island of Moorea. While standing outside of the church, the view of the bay and shoreline of the island is breathtaking!

Have you ever rented a motor scooter to tour a city?

Before our 2014 cruise around the islands of French Polynesia, we spent several days on the island of Moorea. During part of the time, we rented a motor scooter so that we could tour the island on our own. Since the island is fairly small, we were able to go around the entire perimeter one time ... plus we hit several of our favorite stops a second time.

We loved the atmosphere of old Moorea. While there, we learned that missionaries helped to develop much of the island. This Octagonal Church was an example of their handiwork.

What cities have you explored on a motor scooter?
