Prague's Powder Tower Gate was one of the original 13 entrance gates into the city's Old Town. Construction of the gate and tower (originally known as the "New Tower") began in 1475. The new name was adopted after the tower became a storage place for gunpowder beginning in the early 1700s. While the views from the viewing platform are among the best in the city, it does require climbing 186 steps to reach the top!
