Visiting the Sun Temple at Ollantaytambo, Peru

After climbing to the top of the hill in Ollantaytambo, there is a temple complex dedicated to the Sun that overlooks a remarkably beautiful valley. There are several interesting constructs in this temple including another incredible wall, a fountain and a wall made of six huge monoliths. The wall and arch in the photo overlook the city-side of the temple complex. The stones are cut and placed with amazingly accurate and odd-angled seams such that no mortar is needed. They even stay secure in this earthquake prone region!

Are you intrigued by ancient civilizations?

We learned a lot about the Incas during our time in Peru. Over two years later, we are still intrigued by so much of what the Incas were able to accomplish so many years ago. We enjoyed exploring the Ollantaytambo Temple, often referred to as Ollanta. In addition to this temple, the Incas built a large and functional civilization spanning most of western South America.
