Hidden Waterfall On The Road to Thurmond

Located in West Virginia's New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, Dunloup Creek Falls is located on the road to Thurmond. Unless someone tells you about the waterfall, you will most likely never see it. Even though it is just steps away from the roadside, there is no signage to let you know that its there. If you decide to check it out, look for a big rock and a trash can about 4 miles from the turn-off toward Thurmond!

Do you enjoy trying to find hidden gems?

When we were at the Canyon Rim Visitor Center at New River Gorge National Park and Preserve, I overheard one of the volunteers telling another visitor about a "secret spot". As Scott always says, when she hears "secret", she has to go there! We patiently waited to learn more about this spot, and once I heard it was a waterfall, I knew we had to find it.

Since there are no signs and it's not on any of the park maps that we saw, most people don't know about it. Fortunately, Dunloup Creek Falls wasn't too difficult to find. We climbed up the nearby rock for this photo before continuing on our journey.

What hidden gem have you gone on a hunt to find?
