Standing Amazed at the Whites Sands in New Mexico

Recently "upgraded" from a national monument to a national park, White Sands is the largest gypsum dune field in the world. The dune field is located in New Mexico at the northern end of the Chihuahuan Desert. The sand is so white and rivals the sand along the Gulf Coast near Destin, Florida.

Social Media Description

Do you like white sand, or do you prefer the more traditional golden colored sand?

We love white sand and have been lucky enough to see it at Monahans Sandhills (Texas), Great Sand Dunes (Colorado), Emerald Coast (Florida), Imperial Sands (California) and Mescalero Sands and White Sands, both in New Mexico. This visit to White Sands National Park was during 2018, before it was upgraded from national monument to national park status.

The white sand there is just plain beautiful - more white than at any of the other dunes locations that we have visited. Hiking and picnicking in White Sands are a must - and I'm sure sandboarding would be an awesome experience as well! We walked the loop hike from sign post to sign post - many of the posts were hard to find as they were half buried - we couldn't see anything but white!

Where is your favorite sand located?
