Destinations | Texas | Dallas | Zoo | Aquarium | Dallas World Aquarium | Dallas Kid Friendly Activities | Shrimp Boil | Hook Line and Sinker | Galaxy Drive-In
On a recent birthday trip, Stacy and I took a road trip to Dallas to visit, among other places,
the Dallas World Aquarium located in downtown Dallas.
Dallas World Aquarium
The main attraction for us at Dallas World Aquarium
was the manatee display. These large mammals are peaceful fresh water giants that solely eat
vegetation. In Florida they are commonly seen in the winter months when they swim into streams
and inland waterways. They even frequent power plant water run-off sites to keep warm!
Unfortunately these animals do not naturally exist in Texas.
We also saw some more of Stacy's favorite animals - penguins. (There weren't nearly as many as
we saw on our trip to South America, though.)
There are many other forms of sea life at the aquarium including sharks, sting rays, starfish and
jellyfish. The aquarium also has a great aviary, and a surprisingly large selection of monkeys as well.
Dallas World Aquarium is an indoor park making it a great place to visit on hot days, cold days and
even rainy days. One of the most appealing things about the aquarium is that it is enjoyable for
young kids and older adults too.
If they are on-site during your visit, don't miss getting a photo of your group with the Islanders!
DART Transportation in Dallas
If you don't want to park in downtown Dallas, consider taking the DART train. The DART offers several park and rides with free, safe parking. We regularly use
the DART when in Dallas, and it makes getting from place to place so convenient - no parking or traffic
worries! To top it off, the per person cost of only $6.00 for an entire day is probably less expensive
than paying to park during your visit!
How about Dinner and a Movie, too!
To keep with our "water theme", we found a great shrimp boil restaurant near downtown Dallas.
Called Hook Line & Sinker, the restaurant has two
prime Dallas locations. We enjoyed our meal at the 3103 Lemmon Ave. location where they
offer reasonably priced and tasty Texas Gulf Coast seafood in a very casual atmosphere. Their catfish
is battered in cornmeal (Texas style) and fried right before your eyes!
Hook, Line and Sinker Restaurant
On our return home we decided to stay for one night in Ennis, Texas. We love to visit the Galaxy Drive-In Theatre that has 7 screens
showing current popular movies. Sound for the movie is broadcast over FM radio right into your car.
We usually bring a separately powered radio so we don't run down the battery in our vehicle. We try
to avoid being stranded at the drive-in and branded a fool!
Enjoying a movie can be either a perfect date night or a family friendly activity. It's a great way to
spend time with others and recall an era almost gone by. The Galaxy has a concession stand and also
fun vintage advertisements between movies. It really is fun to relive your youth at the drive-in!
During our short trip, we also snuck in a visit to Southfork Ranch. Don't miss our post titled
Relive America's Greatest Soap Opera at Southfork Ranch. Filled with lots of photos from the
ranch, we share what to expect during your visit to the home of JR Ewing!
