Thailand | Phuket | Phi Phi Archipelago | Ko Phi Phi Le | Maya Bay | White Sand Beach | "The Beach" | Scenic | Landscape
If you saw the 2000 movie "The Beach" starring Leonardo Di Caprio you probably have memories of some of Thailand's beautiful scenery. The archipelago, commonly referred to as the Phi Phi Islands, includes Ko
Phi Phi Le, the second largest island in the group. Maya Bay, one of two shallow bays found on the island, is the most famous. The bay's fame comes in part from its role in the movie, but also because of it's natural beauty including the turquoise waters and white sandy beach surrounded by limestone cliffs.

After a very early morning wake-up alarm (3:00 AM), a tender boat ride to the port in Phuket and a rather long van ride to the pier, we had a quick breakfast. Our speedboat left the pier at 7:00 AM and headed for Ko Phi Phi Le. It wasn't the smoothest ride (I've probably never seen as many people get sea sick on an excursion), but our first stop was a beautiful one. The water, white sand and natural beauty of Maya Bay (made famous in the movie "The Beach") was worth the early morning wake-up!
