Have you visited Austin? There is a great historical restaurant near downtown Austin that is a must visit for locals and visitors alike. The Scholz Garten is Austin's best and oldest biergarten. This biergarten has been operating in the same location since 1866.

History of Scholz Garten
During the 1800's, central Texas was settled by many Germans, and their communities and culture still thrive today. (Other nearby towns of New Braunfels, Fredricksberg and Walburg are great day trips from the Austin area.) Check out the historical marker on the building showing its authentic heritage. August Scholz started Austin's biergarten and it serves great beers and German foods today.Scholz Garten, Today
The biergarten is located near The University of Austin at Texas and is hugely popular on game days where they serve up a more limited game day menu including drinks and German fast foods such as brats (and, of course, beer) for large game day crowds. However, on a normal day, the restaurant is a quaint location to meet with your friends or family, and enjoy some great German food and catch up on the week's happenings. The Wordy Explorers have been enjoying the food and atmosphere for many years.
The interior of the restaurant is decorated with historical photos of Austin and other cute German artwork. The biergarten offers indoor seating in the main restaurant, as well as a larger party room. Additionally, a biergarten wouldn't be a biergarten without an awesome outdoor seating area that is well-shaded and has a bandstand for the periodic live band (since Austin is known as the 'Live Music Capitol of the World'). Also, curiously, the restaurant offers a small bowling alley for private events.
Check out the Scholz Garten website, new since August started the restaurant in 1866! You'll find information about the restaurant including the menu and calendar of musical acts.

Today, the menu includes many traditional German foods as well as country comfort food. Some of my favorites are the giant pretzel, bratwurst, German currywurst, the Scholz Burger, Reuben sandwich, chicken fried steak, obatzda, wienerschnitzel and great German potato salad. Obviously, I'm hungry, and would like to go back for lunch or dinner right now!
The restaurant is located a little north of downtown near the Texas Capitol Building and the University of Texas. You should easily be able to find it - and your hotel staff will certainly know how to provide directions to get you there.
Enjoy some Austin history and culture, as well as some great local food!
