Camping | Rating | Texas | Coldspring | Lake Livingston | Wolf Creek Park

After hitching up our newly purchased RV, "RV There Yet?", Scott took it for a quick test drive around the RV lot, and we were off.

A two hour journey took us to Wolf Creek Park on Lake Livingston where, just one week ago, we reserved and paid a $20 deposit for two nights (the minimum required stay) at campsite 7. Scott had no trouble backing in to our flat and easily accessible site without a rear view camera - just my very limited instructions communicated via walkie-talkie.

While the park does have waterfront campsites, none were available for such a short notice stay. The standard RV site (50 amp electric plus on-site water and sewer) had a total cost of $48 for our two night stay ($20 per night for site plus $2 per person per night; waterfront sites were just $4 extra per night). Located in the first of three loops with 10 sites each, we had a not too distant view of Lake Livingston.

The three loop area where we were hooked up was very quiet, and the loop sites were the closest to the boat ramp, fish cleaning station, 18 hole miniature golf course (which could use some upkeep), marina and store. It was an easy walk to the restroom/bath house (the showers were also in need of maintenance) and designated swimming area. During the only opportunity that we had to swim, the water was very warm but not very clear (possibly due to the heavy rain just a day earlier).

We had a picnic table, grill and fire pit which was perfect for cooking our foil pack dinner as well as for roasting marshmallows for our dessert s'mores.

The campsites were clean, however we did have an infestation of ants - fortunately a little ant spray took care of that minor problem. While our picnic table was not covered, we did have a number of pine trees providing some shade (plus a perfect grouping of three trees which we used to suspend our two hammocks).

With both on-site sewer hook-ups as well as daily trash pick-up at the front curb of each campsite between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, dump stations and dumpsters were at a minimum in Wolf Creek Park.

Since we had noticed a pool of water in our bedroom, (presumably coming through the window during the heavy rainstorm), we debated between going home to either self-repair or take "RV There Yet?" to a nearby dealer, or to request a one night extension. As Wolf Creek Park was not at full capacity, there was no trouble extending our stay so it seemed to make sense to return to Genuine RV Store.

Before retiring on our final evening, we did all that we could to make our morning departure quick and easy. Having all utilities on-site made our packing and preparations a little easier for our first trip. We hitched "RV There Yet?" up to our tow vehicle, straightened up the inside and even emptied our black and gray water tanks - all without having to move!
