Camping | Mississippi | Natchez | Passport America | Mississippi Campgrounds | RV Sites near Historic Natchez | RV Camping in Natchez | Full Service RV Parks in Natchez
After leaving east Texas, we traveled all of the way through the state of Louisiana to Natchez, Mississippi. There is so much history in the city, and since our arrival was in the midst of the 2019 Spring Pilgrimage, we knew that we would easily fill our three days with sightseeing. With that in mind, our goal was to find Mississippi campgrounds with RV sites near historic Natchez.
If you're planning to spend some time RV camping in Natchez and want to be near the best sightseeing destinations, this post will give you an idea of what to expect during a stay at Plantation RV Park. The most important benefit that the park offers is that it is one of few full service RV parks in Natchez that is in a very convenient location.

Campground Amenities at Plantation RV Park
With separate areas devoted to each, Plantation RV Park is a combination RV and mobile home park. The RV Park has 35 sites available for RVs and an additional 6 for campers. During our stay, however, nearly half of the RV sites seemed to be filled with long term RVers. Most of the long term RV sites appeared to be grouped together and were at the end of the park nearest the mobile home sites.We never had the opportunity to meet or talk to the park's owner. We did, however, speak to the onsite maintenance man on the phone prior to making our reservation. He was also the person who checked us in on the day of our arrival at the park. During both interactions, he was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.
Although the park's dumpster was missing in action (the fenced area where it is presumably stored was empty), the grounds of the park were clean and well maintained. The city had been impacted with significant amounts of rain on the days immediately preceding our stay. We witnessed the daily lawn mowing during our three days in town in an effort to keep the grounds in good condition.

Both restrooms, shower stalls and laundry facilities are housed in the same building at Plantation RV Park. The bathhouse facilities all appeared to be functional, however are not in the best condition and are in need of some updating. Since we use the bathroom in our RV, these facilities had no impact on whether or not we liked the park and would return (we would!).
The park's laundry room has three older model washing machines and dryers in various states of repair (and disrepair). Also in the same room is a poorly stocked vending machine - but having a vending machine is not how we choose campgrounds or RV parks!
For those who rely on available map apps (Google Maps, Maps.me, etc.), it is worth noting that the neighborhood streets do not correspond to those displayed in the apps. While the few streets in the RV park are accurate, those in the mobile home park are not.
Plantation RV Park is a no frills facility, but its location is excellent for those wishing to enjoy the sights and sounds of historic Natchez. Escapees, Good Sam and Passport America discount programs are all recognized at the park. With our 50% Passport America discount, the total cost including taxes and all fees was $64.05 for our three night stay. (If you are not already a member of Passport America, sign up today at Passport America and The Wordy Explorers will earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We truly appreciate your support!) No deposit was required to confirm our site, and our credit card was not charged for our stay until the day of our departure (in case we wanted to extend our stay).

Campsite Amenities at Plantation RV Park
Online reservations and site selection are available for stays of one night or longer. We originally reserved and received a confirmation for site Michael 17, however upon our arrival learned that we had been reassigned to site Michael 7. It was explained that our site was likely changed as they prefer to keep short term campers together. Whatever the reason, we were actually happier with our newly assigned site as we preferred both the location as well as the ease of parking.As site Michael 7 is wide, it was relatively easy for Scott to maneuver our 33' rig in order to back-in and park. The site is level and has 30- and 50-amp electric as well as on-site water and sewer. The only downside to the lighted post with electric and water connections (plus a built in hose rack) is that there was no way to secure (lock) our power cable.
Like most sites at Plantation RV Park, the parking area at site Michael 7 is primarily paved with a small patch of grass covered gravel at the rear of the site. The clean campsites have nice landscaping and there are beautiful tall trees throughout the RV park. Unfortunately many of the trees, however, weren't planted in a location where they would provide afternoon shade on the RV sites.
With only one large tree providing morning shade, site Michael 7 has no trees suitable for hanging hammocks. A row of bushes at the rear left corner does provide limited privacy, but doesn't help with afternoon shade.
The only additional amenity at site Michael 7 is an uncovered moveable wooden picnic table. Although the site does have a fire pit, per the e-mail that we received confirming our reservation, Plantation RV Park is a "non-fire campground". (Registered guests may use their personal charcoal or propane grills.)
One downside to the convenience of the park is the road noise from the nearby highway which we heard both inside and outside of our RV. Fortunately once we fell asleep, the noise wasn't loud enough to wake us up, but falling asleep sometimes took a little longer than normal.

Our phone and data service was good through Verizon. Both cell and data service through T-Mobile, however, was intermittent. Although Plantation RV Park does have internet service for park guests, our experience was that the signal was weak and connection was poor, therefore the service was painfully slow. On a positive note, we did find a good selection of broadcast television channels available.
Favorite Campsites at Plantation RV Park
As the RV park is not a large one, it was pretty easy to check out all of the sites to make a list of those we would hope to stay in should we return. While sites in Plantation RV Park all have similar amenities, we did find a few favorites - mostly due to the location of surrounding trees:- at the top of our list are sites Michael 9 and Michael 11 as both are well
shaded
throughout the day;
Site Michael 9 at Plantation RV Park - site Michael 7, the site that we were assigned for our stay, ranked next on our list with the primary downside being the afternoon sun;
- rounding out our list is site Michael 8 as the site does have surrounding trees, however is not quite as level as others.

Camping and Lodging in East Texas
If you're planning a road trip across the US, check out our post titled Review: Byrd's Nest RV Park. Located in far east Texas just a mile from the Louisiana border, this RV park is in a great location for a stop along your east or westbound journey. As the park has both cabins and motel space and is located on Lake Toledo Bend, it's quite popular with anglers - even those who are RV-less!Mississippi Camping
What are your favorite campgrounds and RV Parks in Mississippi, and why do they rank high on your list?Weather:62F Partly Cloudy
