Camping | Utah | Moab | RV Camping near Arches National Park | RV Camping near Canyonlands National Park | Where to Stay in RV in Moab | RVing in Southeast Utah

As we had previously visited Bryce Canyon and Zions National Parks, we had our eyes set on seeing more of Utah during our fall westbound RV trip. The city of Moab was the perfect destination for four nights of camping due to its proximity to two National Parks and more!

If seeing Utah's "Mighty Five" National Parks is one of your goals, take a look at this review of an RV park well positioned for visiting both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. Although the nightly rate at Spanish Trail RV Park was higher than at all other parks at which we've camped since purchasing our RV, this review provides information about (and a few pictures of) the resort style amenities that are not commonly found and make us want to return.

Campground Amenities at Spanish Trail RV Park

Spanish Trail RV Park, home to 81 RV sites, is located within 10 miles of Arches National Park and 15 miles from Island in the Sky, the north entrance to Canyonlands National Park. At about 35 miles away, The Needles (Canyonlands south entrance) is still an easy day trip from the park.

Unfortunately due to the time that we spent visiting the nearby attractions, we did not take the time to see all of the amenities available to guests. Although we didn't use our access code to tour the park's restrooms and shower facilities, they claim that they are clean and rated a 10. Based on the amenities that we did use or see, we don't doubt their claim. Located just outside of the bathhouse facility stands a soft drink vending machine which we also didn't get close enough to see the pricing. We caught a glimpse of a TV lounge with comfortable looking seating through the window, but never asked questions about guest access. Finally, since we were not traveling with pets, we didn't take the time to check out the dog park or dog walk.

During our four night stay, we can confirm that Spanish Trail RV Park was well maintained and clean with trash dumpsters located in several places along the back of the park. Also located at the back is a large covered pavilion with picnic tables and a grill. The staff members that we met were all helpful and extremely pleasant.

The park's laundry room, open 24 hours daily, was clean with 6 stacked washer / dryer units plus one additional dryer. The machines are priced at $2.00 per washer load (bottom machine) and $1.50 per dryer load (top). The machines were all in working order, clean and well maintained during our stay. We took advantage of the onsite facility during our final evening at the park and were happy with the results.

More recent additions to the amenities offered at Spanish Trail RV Park are a heated swimming pool and hot tub (on a timer) accessible to guests between 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM daily. Although all four of our days in Moab were filled with exploring the nearby national parks and other attractions, we enjoyed our evenings spent relaxing our tired bodies in the hot tub. The hot tub was a great place to meet and visit with fellow guests ... and add items to our list of must see nearby sights. We were disappointed to see both the pool and hot tub covered when we returned to the park for our last evening before heading south. Our disappointment quickly faded, however, upon learning that we just needed to name the time that we wanted access and they would be available.

The total cost for our four night stay was $238.52 or nearly $60.00 per night including all taxes. While we would not regularly stay in campgrounds or RV parks with nightly rates this high, we really like the amenities at Spanish Trail RV Park and would definitely return. In order to balance out our total camping expense, we would search for other lesser priced locations before or after our stay - but we enjoy treating ourselves every once in a while!

Campsite Amenities at Spanish Trail RV Park

Advance reservations and site selection are available online and require a 25% deposit (minimum of $25.00). The remaining balance is due at check-in at which time guests receive a very professional packet of information about the park and surrounding areas. The brochure includes a park map as well as the codes needed to access select park amenities. Upon completion of check-in, a staff member will hop into the park golf cart and lead you to your site ensuring an easy approach.

Guest Welcome and Check-in Packet

With sites as long as 75 feet, the prices at Spanish Trail RV Park range from $52.00 - $62.00 plus tax for up to 2 people per night. Although there is an onsite dump station, sites have full hook-ups (30- or 50-amp electric, water and sewer) and the majority offer very easy pull-through parking on a gravel pad. Warnings are posted on the park website, the welcome instructions and check-in packet plus we were also reminded verbally about the high water pressure and need to use a regulator to avoid damage.

All sites are flat and have a grassy pad with an uncovered wooden picnic table and grill positioned on the entry door side of the RV. Although there are no hammock trees, each grassy pad does have at least one tree - some much taller than others.

Approximately three months before our four night stay, we reserved site # 302, one of the least expensive standard pull-through sites and quickly received an email confirmation. Our site was just as advertised with all promised utilities (50-amp electric) and amenities. The tree was not quite tall enough to provide shade however, since our stay was late in the season, needing shade was less important. Although we could hear road noise due to the proximity to the highway, the noise was not loud enough to impact our ability to get a good night of sleep.

Included in the advertised rate for guests at Spanish Trail RV Park is complimentary wi-fi and cable TV. During our stay the consistency and speed of the password protected wi-fi was as good as or better than at most other parks at which we've stayed. The selection of 62 cable television channels includes an excellent variety of both local and national stations. Although not as important with the amenities included with our stay, the cell and data service with both of our providers (Verizon and T-Mobile) was also good.

While Spanish Trail RV Park does not use the term "resort" in their name, in our opinion the amenities offered to guests definitely rival (and in some cases even surpass) those offered at RV resorts at which we've stayed. Although the price was higher than at many other parks, as they say, "you get what you pay for", and in this case that statement certainly rings true.

Favorite Campsites at Spanish Trail RV Park

With nearly identical site amenities (picnic table, grill and full-service utilities), the pull-through sites at Spanish Trail RV Park are all very similar to one another. With taller trees to provide some welcome shade during hot summertime months, our favorite sites include:
  • Sites 306-311;
  • Sites 406-411; and
  • Sites 506-511.
These 18 sites are also positioned in the rows further from the highway passing in front of the park and are thereby further distanced from the road noise.

Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park

Check back in the coming weeks for our posts featuring both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks plus some other amazing sights (and activities) in the vicinity of Moab.
