Exploring the Four Mile Old West Town

The Four Mile Old West Town Museum gets its name from its four mile distance west of downtown Custer. In the 1800s, unnamed towns were assigned numbers so traveling stagecoaches could more easily make stops at the correct location. Today's "ghost town" museum is a re-creation of the former stagecoach stop which stood in the same location.

So .... what are your thoughts on attending "re-creation museums"?

The Four Mile Old West Town Museum was a place that we had read mixed reviews about. The museum is a re-creation of the former stagecoach stop which stood in the same location. The storm clouds were coming, so we decided to see as many of the almost 50 buildings as we could before the weather got too bad.

The town has just about everything that you would expect. There were shoppes, a bank, hotel, jail, church, barber, school, undertaker, judge, laundry ... the list goes on and on. The interpretive exhibits and original artifacts kept our attention, and the $6.00 per person plus tax price wasn't too bad!

Would you make a stop at Four Mile Old West Town Museum?
