Florida | Key Largo | John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park | Dry Rocks Sanctuary | Christ of the Abyss | Snorkeling | Scuba Diving | Sea Dwellers
John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, located in Key Largo, Florida, was the first "undersea state
park" in the United States. In addition to the amazing coral reefs home to a plentiful variety of colorful
fish, a Christ of the Abyss statue can also be seen by snorkelers and scuba divers. The statue was the
third bronze created from the mold used to create the original which is located off of the Italian coast
near Portofino.

What place have you tried to visit multiple times before actually getting there?
For us, one of those places is the Christ of the Abyss statue in the waters now known as the Key Largo
Dry Rocks Sanctuary Preservation Area. Our first attempt was cancelled due to anticipated bad
weather. Our second was cancelled because of boat maintenance. Our snorkel trip with Sea Dwellers
finally brought us out to the site of this underwater statue. (As they say, "third times a charm"!)
Have you had similar issues with getting somewhere that you've wanted to go?
