Oklahoma | Ardmore | Camping | Lake Murray | State Parks | Water Sports | Family Vacation | CCC | WPA
Oklahoma's first state park was initially established in 1933 and opened to the public in 1938. Members of the Civilian Conservation Corps and the Works Progress Administration built structures that still stand within Lake Murray State Park. Although replaced in the mid-1950's, this historic water tower was built by the young men of the CCC. Water service to the lodge and cabins within the park originally depended upon these structures.

Do you enjoy seeing structures created by the WPA or CCC?
I get so excited when I realize that I have an opportunity to see a structure created by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Our stay at Oklahoma's Lake Murray State Park allowed us to see picnic shelters, bridges, a pump house and this historic water tower. I am amazed every time I see a still standing structure built by this group of young men. The CCC definitely made a lasting impact on our country, and I am always impressed by their work!
