The term "forum" typically refers to a public place in an open-air location, often a market. With its central location, social activities and more were "hosted" in a city's forum. The Forum in downtown Rome dates back 2,000 years. It was originally a market and was later transformed into a space full of temples, administrative buildings, courthouses and more. Some of the most popular sites to see include Via Sacra, the Arch of Titus, the Temple of Venus, the Mamertine Prison, the Temple of Saturn and Curia Julia (the Senate House).
