Mount Hood Scenic Drive Around the Mountain

Just 50 miles southeast of Portland stands the majestic Mt. Hood. At over 11,000 feet tall, Mt. Hood is the highest point in the state of Oregon. Mt. Hood is one of few places in the United States where skiing is possible year round. There's even 365-day ski lift service!

Do you enjoy taking day trips to soak in surrounding scenery?

It's one of our favorite things to do to get to know a city. The drive around Mount Hood is filled with scenic views around each and every corner. For people like us who are from the south, it's amazing that there is snow at the top of the mountain even during the summer months!

Our most recent drive around Mt. Hood was in 2018 when the skies were fairly clear. The area has more recently been impacted by forest fires - most apparently from campfires that were not fully put out. It's a great reminder to always make sure that, before you leave a campfire, there is no possibility of the fire starting up again!
