California | Sequoia National Park | Sequoia National Forest | Sherman Tree Trail | General Sherman Tree | Sequoias | Sequoia Tree
What is sometimes referred to as the "King of the Forest", the General Sherman Tree in the Sequoia National Forest is estimated to be about 2,200 years old. The tree stands nearly 275 feet tall and has a circumference of more than 100 feet around its base. Don't be surprised if there is a long line of people waiting to take pictures (and selfies) in front of the tree!

Our visit to the General Sherman Tree in Sequoia National Park was during the heat of summer. It's hard to imagine that visitors need to be very cautious when hiking to the tree during the winter months as the gentle slope of the trail can be very slippery when covered in ice!
