The highest mountain in Texas, Guadalupe Peak, is found in Guadalupe Mountains National Park near the state's border with New Mexico. The national park is actually home to the state's four highest peaks as well as a variety of plants and animals. With 80+ miles of hiking trails, there's a hike for just about any level of hiker. The strenuous 8+ mile uphill hike to the park's namesake is not for everyone, but there's a variety of single and multi-day hikes and even shorter hikes measuring in at less than a mile in length.

We spent most of our second trip to Guadalupe Mountains National Park in McKittrick Canyon. Our visit was in the heat of summer so we again missed the fall colors (of course!). We still enjoyed the natural beauty of the desert landscape during the few hours that we were there.
