On Top of the World or On Top of the Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a 469 mile scenic drive that wanders through North Carolina and Virginia. Looking up from the scenic overlooks along the parkway are peaks that are a part of the Appalachian Mountain Range. The highest point on the actual parkway is at 6,053 feet above sea level near mile marker 431 (the Richland Balsam overlook).

Have you driven along a scenic byway?

We spent much of the day driving from Asheville along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Mile after mile, there are scenic overlooks and great hikes of all lengths along the parkway. I wish we could devote a couple of weeks to slowly driving along the parkway, stopping at every overlook (we stopped at quite a few) and hiking whenever we wanted. Unfortunately we can't stay away from home forever!
