Annually, close to 3 million people see the likenesses of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,
Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln carved into the mountainside. The granite faces that
make up Mount Rushmore National Memorial were chosen by sculptor Gutzon Borglum due to
their impact on the country. The memorial was "carved" between 1927 and 1941. A multi-
million dollar upgrade project to the grounds was completed in the early summer of 2020.

Have you visited Mount Rushmore?
We enjoyed finding several places inside the memorial with unique views of the carving - the
Grand View Terrace (where this was taken), Borglum View Terrace and Sculptor's Studio. Inside
the studio, there's a 1/12 Scale Model of the sculpture. The 0.6 mile Presidential Trail brought us
a little closer to the sculpture. Along with exhibits about each of the 4 presidents, the trail passes
by stone fragments left from the days when the faces were blasted into the mountainside.
If you were to make recommendations about what to see or do at Mount Rushmore, what would
top your list?
