Texas | Austin | McKinney Falls State Park | Lower Falls | Upper Falls | Summer Fun | Hiking | Camping | RVing | Where to Cool off in Austin
During years when Austin has rain, McKinney Falls State Park is a great destination to see not just one, but two waterfalls! Only about 10 miles southwest of downtown Austin, the park is a popular destination year round. The crowds are heaviest during the summer when locals visit the state park to cool off in the pools surrounding the falls. Even when the falls are not flowing, the water can still be enticing. Getting to both the Lower Falls and Upper Falls does require a hike across a limestone trail.

How has the summer weather been in your home town?
It's been so hot in Austin, that we weren't ready to come home after a week of enjoying a lazy river. McKinney Falls State Park is less than an hour from home, so we decided to spend two additional nights cooling off in the waters of Onion Creek!
