Plan a Picture Taking Safari at Pictured Rocks

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is home to a 15 mile long stretch of sandstone cliffs along Lake Superior. The area gets its name from the variety of colors on the face of the rocks. This "stain" comes from minerals such as iron and copper that seep out of the sandstone and decorate the cliff walls. A boat tour provides the best view of the pictured rocks, but the view from the overlook at Miners Castle is the best for seeing the cliffs, beach and clear blue water from above.

Are you a water lover?

Another drive day and another deviation from our original route based on recommendations from people we met in St. Ignace. This time we didn't have to change any reservations - we just took the long way to get to Lake Linden, Michigan.

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is another place that we've added to our "we must return to" list. In order to arrive at our next overnight stop, we only had the time to do short walks to both an overlook and a waterfall. The water along the shore of Lake Superior near Miners Castle looked almost like waters of the Caribbean!
