Georgetown, Texas: April Red Poppy Festival

Red poppies grow natively in southern Europe but were introduced to Georgetown, Texas during World War I. Credit goes to a gentleman who sent some red poppy seeds (symbolizing peace and hope during war time) to his mother from his overseas assignment. The town hosts an annual Red Poppy Festival in late April when it is "painted red" with poppies. The event is free and includes a parade, car show, live music, market-style shopping, food trucks and more.

Social Media Description

We've heard advertisements for the Red Poppy Festival for years. Since we are staying in Georgetown for several months, we finally made it to the late April event. Had a great time watching the parade, listening to music and exploring the downtown streets. The biggest bonus was meeting up with long time friends for lunch!
