Camping | Campgrounds | RV Parks | South Dakota | Badlands | Wall | Sleepy Hollow Campground and RV Park | Good Sam | Wall Drug | Badlands National Park | Minuteman Missile NHS
There's so much to see and do in the Badlands Region of South Dakota, yet most travelers have limited vacation days. When it comes to campgrounds and RV parks, finding the perfect spot helps to make the best use of the precious time that you do have away from home. Sleepy Hollow Campground and RV Park was our choice, and a great one it was. If you have a Good Sam membership, taking advantage of it will even save you a few bucks!
Located in the city of Wall, just steps away from the renowned Wall Drug, Sleepy Hollow provides easy access to the sites you'll want to see. The Pinnacles Entrance Station at Badlands National Park is less than 10 miles away. Plus, all three of the sites which make up the Minuteman Missile NHS are within a 20 minute drive.
Although Ichabod Crane disappeared without the girl in the "Legend of Sleepy Hollow", you are sure to leave Sleepy Hollow Campground with memories that will last a life time!

What Amenities to Expect at Sleepy Hollow Campground & RV Park
If you can find Wall Drug (which is hard to miss with hundreds of signs pointing the way), you can find Sleepy Hollow Campground & RV Park - it's just one block north! You'll also notice several huge grain silos in the city. Sleepy Hollow is directly across the railroad tracks from these steel silos.Check-in at the campground opens at 1:00 PM and guests are requested to check-out no later than 12:00 noon. With our payment due in at the time that our online reservation was made, check-in upon arrival was quick and easy. After letting the front office know that we had arrived, and getting our map with highlighted directions to our pre-selected site, it was time to get set up.
The roads around the campground, as well as all campsites, are all gravel. On our walks and drives through the campground, we did notice that it was kept clean and well maintained. A dumpster was conveniently located near the campground office just beside the dump station.
Those traveling with young ones will enjoy having a playground onsite. And for parents of fur-babies, there is a dog park large enough for even the biggest of dogs to get some good exercise.
Although not open during our stay (likely due to the pandemic), there's even a swimming pool. According to the Good Sam app, the pool is heated, but we can't confirm that based on our experience!
On a more practical note, Sleepy Hollow has the necessities that many look for when choosing a campground or RV park. The men's and women's bathhouses were clean and well maintained. They seemed large enough to accommodate a mostly full campground. They were even color-coded ... just in case you enter the wrong door!
If you find yourself wanting to do a load or two of laundry while camping, Sleepy Hollow has you covered. Located in the same building as the camp office and restrooms is a small laundry room. Commercial sized washing machines were priced at $2.75 per load and dryers at $1.25 each.
We even found something onsite that you don't often see in the United States any longer - a pay phone! (We
can't
actually vouch for whether or not it is still in service, though.)

Reservations are available during the campground's season (mid-April through mid-October, weather permitting) for as little as one night. Members of Good Sam can begin the reservation process through the Good Sam app. Reserving through the app will ensure that the 10% member discount is automatically applied. After the $9.00 savings, the total cost of our two-night stay was $88.29. (By calling the campground at least 48 hours prior to your reserved date, you can avoid paying for the entire first night should a cancellation be necessary. A fee of $15.00 does apply to all cancellations.)

What are the Sites Like at Sleepy Hollow Campground & RV Park?
In addition to 59 pull-though RV sites, Shady Hollow has 14 sites for tent campers. Utility combinations available at the campground include:- 30- or 50-amp electric and water;
- 30- or 50-amp electric, water and sewer;
- 30- or 50-amp electric, water and cable; and
- 30- or 50-amp electric, water, sewer and cable.
Of the sites available when we made our reservations (about 10 weeks prior to our arrival), we chose site 16. The site had 50-amp electric, water and sewer plus a wooden picnic table. At 60 feet in length, the gravel parking pad was plenty long for our 33' trailer and Ford Expedition. It was level and partially shaded by trees on each side.
Site 16 was litter-free when pulled in - the only things at the site were fun decorations left by previous campers. There were two painted rocks - one dated only with the year 2020 and the other left by Ted and Wendy of Ohio, who departed the day prior to our arrival. The rocks were a welcome surprise and gave us an art idea for the future.
We had good phone and data service from our two cell phone carriers, Verizon and T-Mobile. Sleepy Hollow does offer password protected WiFi for guests, however during our stay the service was intermittent. As we opted for a site without cable, we were able to find a limited number of broadcast television channels.

3 Must See Destinations Near Sleepy Hollow Campground
Any stay in the city of Wall should include time to explore at least three of the nearby sites. Just a block away from Sleepy Hollow Campground is the highly acclaimed Wall Drug. The size of this place will truly blow your mind. It will surely not match what you typically envision when you think of a "drug store". With individual rooms for purchasing camping supplies, western wear, toys, souvenirs, fudge and everything in between, you'll feel like you are in a shopping mall.But, Wall Drug is not just for shopping. There's a variety of food available making it easy to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner (plus snacks and dessert) in between your browsing and buying. The backyard will prove to be fun for the kids. There's even a Travelers Chapel where visitors can find peace and solitude. (Make sure to bring your camera. Yes, you'll want to capture the inside of this world famous drug store!)

The Pinnacles Entrance Station at Badlands National Park is less than 10 miles away from Sleepy Hollow Campground. This entrance provides easy access to the entire North Unit of the national park. This is the unit that is home to the most popular and most accessible areas inside the park. Sage Creek Rim Road and Badlands Loop Road, two distinctly different but very enjoyable scenic drives, can each be started from this entrance. The Badlands Wilderness Area and Cedar Pass Area, accessed along the drives, have scenic overlooks, wandering wildlife and a variety of hiking opportunities. (The park's Northeast Entrance Station, near the furthest point of Badlands Loop Road, is just 25 miles away.)
Located within 15 miles of each other on I-90, the visitor center, launch control facility and underground missile silo site make up the world's one and only national site devoted to the Cold War. These three sites are all a part of the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, an educational experience. The good news is that all three will captivate your attention as well.

Although the three sites do require a short commute, each is within 20 minutes of the campground. Delta-09, the Mission Launch Facility is nearest to the city of Wall. Free self-guided audio tours help to answer the questions that you'll have. Both Delta-01 (the Mission Control Facility) and the visitor center are a bit further away. As they are very near the Badlands National Park's northeast entrance, it's easy to combine them into a single day. The visitor center can be explored on your own, however Delta-01 does require advance reservations for ranger-led tours.
