In January of 1912, the state of New Mexico officially joined the union when it became the 47th state in the United States. New Mexico has been known as the "Land of Enchantment" since the late 1930s, a slogan that the state's Visitor's Bureau used to attract visitors. With a large population of Native Americans and scenery including mountains, deserts, caves, sand dunes and more, there's a wide variety of enchanting things to see and do when visiting New Mexico!

Even for those of us who live near the middle of the state, it seems like it takes FOREVER to drive to another state from Texas. I've happily lived in Texas for almost my entire life, but I have to admit that when we go on a road trip, I get so excited when we finally make it to a new state!
