Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the Big Mac

McDonald's Big Mac Museum tells the story of the famous sandwich that is nearing its 55th anniversary. The sandwich was originally introduced in Pittsburgh in 1967, and the best known jingle advertising the Big Mac ("two all beef patties ...") was not used until seven years later. The small museum located inside a North Huntingdon restaurant is home to some other fun McDonald's memorabilia.

Have you ever visited a food museum?

We spent part of our afternoon exploring the exhibits about "two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun"! Yes, that's right - did you know that there was a museum devoted to the McDonald's Big Mac?

The museum is actually inside a McDonald's restaurant. As you might guess, it's not a very big museum ... and, it was actually closed when we visited. (The McDonald's is still only open for take-out orders and the seating area is closed.) Fortunately there were a couple of managers inside the restaurant who allowed us to quickly walk around and look at the exhibits.

Fun fact: The bun of every Big Mac has (or is supposed to have) 178 sesame seeds!
