Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, namesake of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, became the ruler of Abu Dhabi in 1966 and just over five years later, the founder of the United Arab Emirates. Construction of the country's largest mosque which can accommodate 50,000 people was completed in November 1996. From construction through today, one goal of the mosque is to 'unite the world'. During construction, materials and people from around the world helped to make this vision possible. Today, people from around the world continue to visit the mosque.

We wanted to see a bit more of the UAE, so we opted for a day trip to Abu Dhabi, the largest of the emirates and the country's capital. We started our day with a tour of the Grand Mosque, the largest of the mosques in the country. The details are amazing and what a beautiful place to have the opportunity to visit!
