Botswana | Chobe River | Chobe National Park | Chobe Bakwena Lodge | Elephant | Elephant Trunk | Feeding | Eating
In addition to the bark on trees, elephants eat a variety of grasses, leaves, bushes, shrubs and other small plants, fruits, twigs and even roots. They use their trunk to move food into a pile and then pick up their "bite-sized pieces" with their trunk. It is estimated that these large mammals spend 16 or more hours eating over 300 pounds of vegetation each and every day.
