Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is home to a total of 21 lakes. Located in the southern area of the national park is Loon Lake. The lake has no beach area, but is quite peaceful for a morning canoe or kayak trip. If you arrive before the motor boaters stir up the calm waters, wading into the sandy bottomed lake or sitting alongside the waters of Loon Lake makes for a pleasant time.

Do you ever make last minute changes to your vacation plans?

We had pretty much mapped out a four month road trip across the Midwest and central eastern coast of the US. Based on a recommendation from someone we met along the way, we changed our plans for one of our nights which caused a ripple effect on two additional reservations.

Although we only had part of an afternoon and part of a morning at Sleeping Bear Dunes, we are so glad that we got a taste of the awesome national lakeshore. Who could resist this morning stop at Loon Lake!
