Morocco | Marrakech | Ben Youssef Medersa | Courtyard | Architecture | History | Culture | Arab | Muslim
The Ben Youssef Medersa was completed in 1565 in the Medina (city) of Marrakech. For the next 400+ years, students lived in the small rooms which surrounded the central courtyard. It was at the medersa where they sought to broaden their knowledge of religious sciences, philosophy, medicine and mathematics. Today, visitors can explore the medersa where they will find unique ceilings, tiles, carved wooden doors and other interesting architectural features.
