Minnesota | Minneapolis | Mississippi River | Minnehaha Creek | Mississippi National River and Recreation Area | Minnehaha Regional Park | Minnehaha Falls | Gorge | Hiking Trails
One of the highlights for visitors exploring Minnehaha Regional Park, a part of the Mississippi National
River and Recreation Area, is Minnehaha Falls. The 53-foot waterfall comes from the waters of the
Minnehaha Creek, a tributary of the Mississippi River which flows through the park. The park lands, which
included the waterfall, were originally purchased by the state in 1889.

Do you enjoy spending time at the park?
Even without young kids at home, we love spending time at parks - especially those parks that have a
variety of things to do. Since we are staying near Minneapolis, we headed to Minnehaha Regional Park.
We found a nice view of the 53-foot Minnehaha Falls from above and an even better view after walking
into the gorge. There's park benches, trails and even a sandy beach where the Mississippi River and
Minnehaha Creek meet.
