Back in the day when today's Amman was a part of the Roman Empire, the city was called Philadelphia. Still standing today (after significant reconstruction) is the Roman Theatre thought to have been built between 138 and 161 AD. The theatre seats as many as 6,000 and plays host to concerts and more. Also onsite are the Odeon (a smaller auditorium) and two museums: The Folklore Museum and the Museum of Popular Traditions.

Sure wish we were in Amman when an event was on the schedule at the Roman Theatre. The next best thing was exploring on our own. The acoustics are amazing - whether "lecturing" from the marked spot or whispering to someone on the opposite end of the stage wall!
