France | Paratrooper Mannequin | Sainte-Mère-Église | Church | Steeple | D-Day | Normandy
While traveling in Northern France, we visited the beaches of Normandy and Sainte-Mère-Église Church. It was at this
church where an American paratrooper got stuck on the steeple during the Normandy invasion. Today, there is a
paratrooper mannequin hanging on the church as a reminder of that unusual occurrence. This now famous situation
was also depicted in the 1962 movie "The Longest Day".

Have you seen the movie "The Longest Day"?
I remember watching the movie as a child, but learned so much more about the day on our 2016 D-Day Tour in
Normandy. Our Normandy Spearhead tour guide met us at the dock in Le Havre and helped our small group understand
more about the events of D-Day. We visited a number of sites including the Normandy beaches, the American
Cemetery and Sainte-Mère-Église. Having a history lesson in the actual places where events occurred is very powerful!

A man of ordinary talent will always be ordinary, whether he travels or not; but a man of superior talent will go to pieces if he remains forever in the same place. - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
