Wayang Kulit is the Indonesian name for flat shadow puppets made from leather. A performance utilizing Wayang Kulit is watched on a back-lit screen on which the "shadows" of the puppets are seen by the audience. Wayang Klitik, also a form of shadow puppetry, uses flat puppets made of very thin pieces of wood. Wayang Golek is the Indonesian name for three-dimensional puppets with a rod that enables the performer to move the puppet's body and sticks connected to the hands of the puppet.

Watching the puppeteers in action was an amazing experience. We got to see a shadow play, learn a little about the creation of puppets from Aldy and watch his amazing skill at maneuvering a wooden puppet. Thanks to our guide, Ira Lathief, Aldy even personalized the show with each of our names included the storyline!
