No Visit to Vienna is Complete without Sachertorte!
Dating back to the 1830s, Sachertorte is the famous Austrian chocolate cake first baked by the cake's namesake, Franz Sacher. Because of the combination of bittersweet chocolate and apricot jam forming the layers, the dessert has a distinct flavor. Topped with a dark chocolate glaze (and often a dollop of whipped cream), try the original Sachertorte recipe at Hotel Sacher or a copycat at many other bakeries in Vienna.

My first visit to Austria was almost 40 years ago. Scott and I were here over 10 years ago and again last fall. It's a must to have Sachertorte during every visit to Vienna - lol!
