Just a 15 minute drive southeast from the Basseterre cruise port are a number of public beaches on the island of St. Kitts. With water great for swimming and snorkeling, water sports including SUPs and jet skis, plus bars and restaurants, South Friars Beach is one of the most popular public beaches with both locals and tourists. Be sure to check out the Shipwreck - it's been open for many years and reportedly offers both good food and drinks to beachgoers.

Last stop on our island tour was a beach stop at South Friars Beach. We didn't stay to swim this time, but we would happily return. Next time we visit St. Kitts, we might just plan a beach day ... they say the snorkeling is good too!
