The city of Kilgore, located in East Texas, was founded in the early 1870s. Many give credit to the railroad industry for the city's beginnings. The Train Town USA Registry was started by Union Pacific in 2012 as a way to recognize cities with long time connections to the railroads. In 2013, Kilgore was awarded membership into the registry, and still has strong ties with Union Pacific.

The Union Pacific 6817 was parked not far from the old train platform in Kilgore. Snapped this photo with the oil derrick shadow before it took off for its next stop!
